Having just finished my tenth expert opinion for a court case, I am reminded of the importance of reaching outside the university and engaging in other type of work. During the last twenty years, I’ve been involved as an expert in ten court cases — some of them dealt with asylum and deportation, others with corruption of judiciary, and still others with property abusively confiscated by the communist regime. The cases were heard in courts in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom, and some of the cases brought some others academics as expert witnesses. This is a work I very much enjoy, and find useful and rewarding.
